I am so delighted to share this lovely New York City engagement session today– not only are Patrick and Marie absolutely gorgeous and oh-so-sweet, but I’m head over heels for the photographic style of Lucy O Photo. The soft, grainy light, the stunning sartorial styling, the fun locations, and tons of detail shots– what a perfect way to celebrate the engagement of this incredible Charlottesville couple!
The first meeting: The church (St. Thomas).

Design inspiration: Vintage casual.
Most fun thing to plan: Music for the ceremony and the details of the reception decor.
Most stressful: Creating a low-debt, attainable payment plan.

The proposal: I moved to NYC after about a year of dating; Patrick proposed the very first day of my first visit back to Charlottesville, abandoning all previous ready-made plans surrounding the proposal as he “just couldn’t wait any longer.”
Family “traditions:” The center diamond on my ring is Patrick’s grandmother’s from her own engagement ring. I’m is also using my mother’s dress as the “bones” for my gown, which is currently being restyled at the Metropolitan Opera.
The groom’s job: Just all the things I find slightly boring and (luckily) he enjoys! Negotiating with vendors and drawing up contracts, designing save the dates, invitations, programs, etc.
Advice for newly engaged couples: Something that’s been important for us is to ignore the temptation to “countdown” to the wedding date. We have a relatively long engagement and it’s been surprising how fast it’s flown by. I think that’s because we’re not ticking days off of the calendar everyday and instead enjoying the tasks and romance that exist within just simply being engaged to each other.
