Thought o’the Week: I Love You Much

Awww– yes, we’re getting romantic all week here on FĂȘte! ee cummings is one of my favorite poets– his work is evocative, passionate, extremely risque, and visually stimulating. I love his work so much that I could barely choose just one poem to be read at our wedding ceremony; I had a list of three for my youngest brother to read and this was one I forced him to practice frequently (we ended up going with “love is more thicker than forget” because it’s much weirder). If I had to choose one to illustrate the rest of my life’s lovings, though, this one might win the prize–>
I love you much(most beautiful darling)
more than anyone on the earth and i
like you better than everything in the sky
-sunlight and singing welcome your coming
although winter may be everywhere
with such a silence and such a darkness
noone can quite begin to guess
(except my life)the true time of year-
and if what calls itself a world should have
the luck to hear such singing(or glimpse such
sunlight as will leap higher than high
through gayer than gayest someone’s heart at your
nearness)everyone certainly would(my
most beautiful darling)believe in nothing but love
