{Try This} Fitness Tips from Nick Symmonds

Remember our fun chat with Nike track and field athlete and Olympian Nick Symmonds? He’s back, with a few tips for us non-Olympic-level athletes trying to get going with our fitness. If you’re feeling unmotivated, needing some new inspiration, or just searching for general “get moving” advice, Nick has a few tricks for you–>
1. Be consistent: ”it is better to work out a little bit every day than to try and cram an entire week’s worth of work into one session.”

2. Have a goal: ”schedule a race, or a test of some kind to keep you honest and motivated in your training.”

3. Don’t work out alone: ”having someone counting on you to meet them at the gym will keep you motivated on those days that you really don’t want to work out.”
Sound familiar? Don’t roll your eyes– these concepts and ideas really do work! I guarantee you there are days when someone has high level as Nick doesn’t want to get out of bed. Waiting teammates and coaches keep him going and really committing to a consistent schedule continuously makes Nick a champion. So what are you waiting for? Sign up for a race (or for real beginners, sign up for an extra challenging class in a month’s time– using that as a benchmark to train for is a solid first step!), map out a workout plan, schedule in days to meet up with friends to train, and get moving!
