I have the biggest weakness for brick– the mesh of reds and browns that come together just get me every time. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a brick house and I swore to myself that my dream home would be the same; maybe it’s because I have brown hair and love wearing red; maybe it’s because the combination of reds and browns is so earthy and sensual that I always find myself attracted to these colors together.

I’m loving these red and brown color combos:

Clockwise, from top left: A delicious red drink (in a jar, of course!) on a smooth wooden table.  A Beautiful Mess  /  Fringe, wool, and leather? It doesn’t get much better. Free People  /  This lady is rocking the red and brown combo! Love it. Sho & Tell  /  I love these headbands from Anthropologie– these colors look perfectly boho.  /  The sweetest red and brown image! (It’s a temporary tattoo stand– can’t wait to do this with my babies!) On To Baby  /  I’m a sucker for color blocking bookshelves– doesn’t the red shelf look divine on these wooden shelves? Inspired by a yellow bridal shower yesterday (and several people insisting “Yellow is really your color!”), I’m seeking inspiration for the early summer days in mellow, faded, and golden hues of yellow. I know, I know, neon is the big trend right now, but let’s not go overboard– as the sun gets hotter, we should embrace more relaxed shades of yellow– the perfect compliment to tan skin, lazy days, and fast-paced evenings out! For summer 2012, a soft shade of yellow should be your wardrobe staple.

1. Pssst– I wore the Afternoon Sunshine Lace Dress to my bridal shower yesterday! A nice, easy fit, super comfortable, very pretty, and not too “bridal!” Ruche  2. I’m obsessed with Baggu bags– especially this Citron leather one! Perfect slouchy bag for summer days at the beach, nights out, or high-powered workdays. Baggu  3. A chunky summer necklace, to go with just about anything! Park Guell Bib Necklace, Kate Spade  4. Flats with flair. See by Chloe T-Strap Flat, Piperlime  5. Lazy, lounging, yellow summer days. The softness of a light pink combined with the rough, rustic edge of a kraft-paper brown is classic. A perfect combination for an early spring wedding, a sweet bridal shower luncheon, a date night that ends with rose wine, or a party with LOTS of confetti.

Maybe it was all the old red barns I dove past on my trek from Charlottesville to Blacksburg and back this weekend, or maybe it’s because my eye has been drawn to all bright things as the days have steadily become more and more gray– but really, who could say no to a good winter red? Wear it (make a big statement with a red peacoat or a subtle statement with a piece of jewelry), decorate with it (love berry wreathes), or show it off (the bride above? I’d marry her in that dress!). Whatever you do, ditch your standard black garb at least once this week and embrace winter’s brightest color.
