CATEGORY: WEEKEND LINKS

I don’t think I can start another weekend link round up with the phrase, “OMG, can you believe it’s the weekend already?”… but is it me or is life moving awfully fast these days? I’ll often take a step back– usually during a run or workout– and think, “I’m going to blink and be at ___ (my race on Saturday, the US Championships in five weeks, Europe in July).” I had a coach tell me last year during a race, “It’ll be over before you know it.” Translate that to EVERYTHING, not just a race– it’s thrilling and scary and overwhelming all at once. Spend more time this weekend really soaking in the moment; it will be over before you know it.

I want to transport myself into this picture and become this girl, if only for a minute… image via

Another week flown by, another weekend to celebrate! It’s been a lazy, relaxing morning thus far… I’m trying to finish up The Great Gatbsy before John and I see it on Monday (I’m traveling and can’t see it without him!). I’m enchanted by the text– F. Scott Fitzgerald is a master with words. He makes the simplest scenes come completely alive with his words! Reading it again (for the first time since high school or maybe early college), I’m starting to dislike Nick more and more… he’s just as silly and selfish as Daisy, Tom, and Gatsby. But we’ll see…

Let’s spend the entire weekend floating around, just so… Jessica Stam by Solve Sundsbo for Harper’s Bazaar via Belle de Jour

A nice, long list of must-reads to inspire your perusing this weekend–>

-Obsessed with these colors.

-We’ve featured Cheryl and Peter’s engagement shoot and wedding by Cramer Photo– and now it’s so fun to see their maternity shoot on the Inspired by This blog!!

Happy Saturday!! I hope your weekend is off to a lovely start! If you’re attending Foxfield (and therefore not reading this at the time of posting)– I hope you had a fabulous time. It’s been so long since I’ve been to Foxfield… I need to put together a reunion! It was always tough to make it to Foxfield, the annual horse race in Charlottesville that all the students go to (to put it in perspective, if you saw a horse at all during the day, you were doing it wrong), because this weekend is also a big one in the track and field world. Penn Relays, where college, high school, and professional runners gather in Philly for a full weekend of races, usually falls on the same weekend as Foxfield (darn!). Despite its party reputation, Foxfield is actually a beautiful day of derby-ing, beautiful sundresses and bowties, and springtime fun with all of your friends.

I didn’t have a chance to keep up with my favorite blogs this week, so today’s list is a little on the short side; I’m currently holed up in a Peet’s Coffee in Palo Alto, California, enjoying a delicious latte and free wifi before a race tomorrow evening. But here are a few lovely links I scrounged up and they’re more than guaranteed to inspire your browsing this weekend–>

-These questions every 20-something needs to ask thankfully applies to any of us at any age! Thanks to Molly for sharing this with us.

-If you’re as obsessed with yarn ball poms as I am, these pom garlands must be on your to-make list for your next whimsical soiree!

-Did you keep up with Bridal Market? I missed much of it, with all the stressful things going on in the world over the past few weeks, but I love seeing these new Austin Scarlett gowns! If only I could remarry John… there are so many designer dresses I would love to sport!

-Cinco de Mayo is coming up– and this fiesta by the Camille Styles crew is oh-so-fabulous!

-It’s always so touching when your favorite people/bloggers/creatives allow themselves to be vulnerable and share their worlds with their readers; this post by one of my favorite Cville photographers, Meredith Montague, totally touched my heart.

-DIY alert! Fabric-bound notebooks by Sincerely Kinsey

-Must-see inspiration for your barn wedding

-This piece from local writer Janis Jaquith on the Boston Marathon is amazing. She put it into perfect perspective.

-Wedding o’the week: sparkles, gold, and love– what more do you need?

Whew– what a week, what a week. You might have noticed it was quiet around here– apologies, but I’m sure we were all a bit distracted by what was going on in the world. I couldn’t get into my normal routine; motivation to blog about weddings or party inspiration or interiors was pretty low. John and I have been glued to our TV and news blogs non-stop; he poured over images of the suspects, desperate to crack the case; I just wanted to do nothing. In the middle of it, our best friend turned 30, and I poured all my energy into celebrating him for a day. And now, thankfully, thankfully!, the terror is over. And maybe the world can be given a reprieve for a few weeks.

Cute babies and puppies– all day, every day. Please. image via seek(ing)

I’m sure we’re all going to be hitting the blogosphere this weekend, for much-needed rest and recovery away from the never-ending news cycle. Some pretty and fun things to revive you–>

-Are you a grapefruit person? These grapefruit muffins by Elsie and Emma look DELICIOUS! High on my to-bake list.

-My kick-ass wedding planner Meghan Streit wrote up this lovely post for Borrowed and Blue– tips for spicing up the details at your wedding!

-Don’t have a huge backyard? Emily shares some small yard eye candy.

-Kat talks about the overwhelming rise of styled wedding shoots (and shares some legitimately marvelous ones from Lisa Devlin’s Photography Farm). I have to agree– when I first started styling editorial shoots, it was reserved for the big time magazines. Now, every publication and blog and workshop styles shoots more than might be necessary. It’s becoming slightly exhausting trying to style all the same elements– bride, groom, tablescape, bouquet, dress– in fresh ways. It might be time for something altogether new

-Take time to dream about your business! Some inspiration and some real-time actions you can do to make all your creative dreams come true.

-I love this interview with Anthology Magazine’s EIC– that publication is one of my literary role models!

-Veronica delves into the issue of jealousy– that woman is absolutely brillant.

-I’m sure you’ve seen this Dove Beauty Ad– it’s making waves! Most women view it as inspiring, but some writers find it to be another false representation of “real women”. What are your thoughts?

-C-ville Weekly rounds up the coolest places in Charlottesville– get out and hit up one of these this weekend!

-Are you a blogger who longs for the good ole days of handwritten letters and snail mail? The Postmark Society has just started up– head over, sign up, and get a real life blogger pen pal! I’m so excited for this.

-Nerd alert: Joanna Goddard has been encouraging us to up our vocabulary gameVocabulary.com is a surprisingly fun learning + procrastination tool! I’m already addicted and I just started playing this morning.

Happy Sunday! Apologies for not getting these up yesterday, per usual… but some days it feels so good to not even have the blog open amongst my dozens of tabs. The week flew by and before I knew it, I hadn’t looked at my blog readers in days, I had too many emails to myself with links I wanted to peruse, and my untouched books and magazines were looking at me with disapproving eyes.

How has your weekend been? I hope you’re loving the beautiful spring days and relishing in the longer evenings!

This party looks AWESOME. image via Temperley London

A few fun reads (that I finally got to!) to inspire your Sunday browsing–>

-My Blogcademy gal Stephanie read Brene Brown’s Daring Greatly at the same time I did– her review of the book is a fabulous recommendation if you’re curious about Brene’s work.

-I’m in love with Kelly Oxford. Her interview with NPR made me feel like I was listening to an old friend.

-Super impressed with this attic makeover via Design*Sponge. I would live in that room!

-A new Tumblr (and man) to love: James Nord

-There’ve been many conversations amongst my favorite bloggers lately about unplugging, the strange relationship we have with social media, and the way we often put our “best life” out there instead of reality. SF Girl by Bay has a lovely piece on all this and I’m so glad she joined in the conversation!

-Similar: Joanna Goddard writes about jealousy (and a cool new illustrated book!).

-Gala shares her magic green juice recipe! Yum!

-On writing fan letterswe need to do this more.

-Jennifer Carroll released her debut magazine!! As a former assistant for this marvelous, over-the-top talented woman, I am so proud and excited for her– it looks AMAZING!

-Wedding o’the Week: A dear friend sent this wedding my way– it is right up my alley! Great find Storyboard Wedding, I love this one!

-I love this blog: Molly curates one tip on how to be smarter, one tip on how to be smarter, prettier, and less awkward. This edition is particularly powerful.

-Bright wedding inspiration!

-If you missed last weekend’s Blog Brunch, there’s a great recap on their blog!

-Design*Sponge round up a list of delicious spring dishes– I can’t wait to try some of these!

-Cue the tears: Kat reflects on her five years of marriage and I’m already crying just typing this. A must-read!

Happy Saturday! How has your weekend been so far? It finally feels properly like spring (which means WARM sun, too many college kids out and about, sitting outside with girlfriends, not needing a jacket). Unfortunately, I’m adjusting back to EST after five weeks of PST and I am exhausted– not good. It’s been a relaxing, fairly productive weekend so far, but there are some DIY projects I want to get to, a husband I want to spend time with, blogs I want to read… and I’m afraid sleep might trump them all.

sensual napping couple

This looks perfect. Also, fabulous hair on this beautiful lady!! image via anna morosini

A handful of link love to inspire your weekend browsing–>

-Have you heard of BlogBrunch? I’ve mentioned it before, but it deserves love again. Some fabulous ladies schemed up a Twitter chat the first Saturday of every month where awesome bloggers chat about various topics. Today’s chat (which you might have seen in my tweets) was about work/life balance– such a huge topic! As always, the chat was lovely and I’ve found some incredible new blogs/tweeters to follow!

-This sweet story made my week! I want to be a part of a community like this.

-Love shoot inspiration. So, so beautiful!

-My incredible wedding dress designer Katelyn’s new studio was featured on Refinery 29! Her 2013 collection is divine!

-Are you newly (or not so newly) engaged and in Charlottesville? Some of the best vendors in town are giving away a free wedding (and I’m one of the contests’ judges). The entry deadline is coming up– check it out if you’re planning (or hoping to plan) a wedding, but aren’t sure if you have the resources to pull it off!

-Everyone’s favorite New York girl, Eloise, has been revamped for today’s hipster culture!

-Stunning book designs.

-This husband-and-wife collaboration project is lovely– I’d love to start something like this with John!

-One of my favorite bloggers, Summer of Design is Mine, is getting married! I love her round-up of wedding moments.

Yesterday– Good Friday– I felt strange. Growing up in a fairly devout Catholic family, Easter, Christmas, all the special holidays were overly celebrated. But in our first year of marriage, it feels like John and I haven’t paid attention to any holiday at all. Thanksgiving was lowkey; Christmas was super casual; and now Easter is going to pass without Mass or dyed eggs or chocolate bunnies or a big brunch. Instead, we’ll go on for a super hard long run, go out to breakfast with the guys, and lay around all day. It makes me feel sad (obviously not sad enough to run around and make it extra special). John’s answer? “Holidays are for teaching kids lessons.” What lessons, I’m not sure, but he’s not too concerned about how undevout we are this year.

In case you, too, are being a tiny bit undevout and using this weekend to relax and gather inspiration, a little round-up of must-reads:

-Wedding o’the week: It’s always a happy day when Jen Fariello’s gorgeous couples grace the (web)pages of Style Me Pretty!

-Rue gives us the best office space eye candy.

-I can’t stop listening to this song.

-A bit late on this one, but I’m so inspired by the Everygirl profile of Victoria of SF Girl By Bay. Incredible blog, even more incredible lady!

-Need some cake inspiration? (Really, who doesn’t?). Brooklyn Bride has a jawdropping round up of delightful confections!

-Must-bake: these mini pineapple upside down cakes by A Beautiful Mess. My guys will love me forever!

-Carried away by Cherry Blossom Girl’s recent trip to Disneyland Paris.

-Do you follow Rookie Mag? It’s meant for teens, but there are often beautiful photos and essays for all ages– like this dreamy collection of photos.

-Another must-bake (and a new favorite blog!): mac & cheese muffins. How delicious do these look? I found the Never Settle Blog through the AltSummit class I took Monday night– I love stumbling upon new, emerging bloggers!

-Another at-home profile of a blogger I adore: Glitter Guide takes us into the life and home of Amanda of 100 Layer Cake (one of my first favorite wedding blogs!). Amanda, can I move in please?

-Santa Barbara Chic styled a super fun bridal shoot for Flutter Magazine– bridal style based on Zodiac sign! See a snippet of the shoot on her blog too.

The weekend is upon us! And I’m afraid I don’t know what to do with myself. There’s the to-do list, ever long, ever unfinished; there’s the temptation to just sink into the couch with endless cups of tea, March Madness on the screen, and my laptop on my lap (I felt like I barely had time to browse and read my favorite blogs this week); there’s practice (ugh), laundry, thank you cards, a husband to entertain, books to read, friends to call– where to start?

I love the shape, color, and style of this spring outfit– lady-like and feminine, flirty, yet demure, with a killer tattoo… yes, I’d like to be this girl. via A Well-Traveled Woman

Regardless, I think I’ll just let my inclinations be my guide this weekend. If I feel like putting some submissions together, I will. If I feel like reading Game of Thrones all weekend, I will. If I feel like doing nothing productive at all– well, then so be it. Sometimes it’s hard to turn that switch on and off– so here are a few lovely links to inspire you, no matter what you do this weekend–>

Back to business– what are you going to do now that Google Reader is leaving us RSS readers high and dry? Two good options: Bloglovin and Feedly. Now, I already used Bloglovin alongside Google Reader– it’s home to more of my “B” list blogs (because my Google Reader has 126 blogs, hardly much of an exclusive list). The Bloglovin blogs are ones I don’t NEED to be in touch with everyday, but I love taking time to go through them every few days. Because I kept these feeds separate, I wasn’t thrilled at the prospect of going all Bloglovin all the time– and then I found Feedly. I already love Feedly (Google who??); it snags your feeds from your Google Reader and has a gorgeous, clean layout. It’s easy to search for blogs through Feedly and it’s just… amazing. I’m already converted.

If you follow Fête via a reader, don’t stop now! Here we are on Bloglovin and Feedly!

Hello from a snowed-in house in Flagstaff! The snow was relentless yesterday and now we have to face an Arctic tundra to get any training done– fabulous (ps– I sent out a PSA on Twitter yesterday warning that there might be a few more training/running tweets in my timeline than usual. I try to keep my running tweets on a separate account, but with my Instagram and Vine linked to my main twitter identity, you might see more running updates than usual. Sorry!).

Instead of worrying over what did or didn’t get done this past week, I’m going to do my best to stay stress-free and RELAX this weekend. If I can shoot out a few emails, great. If not, there’s always Monday… Productivity be damned, I’m going to do whatever I feel like doing this weekend.

I just stumbled upon this AMAZING fox (temporary) tattoo via Pinterest and I’m obsessed. I need it now! They’re created by Esty artist Kelly Mitchell of Burring Homes– check out the rest of her work here!

I’m excited– I have a big ole list of must-reads to inspire you this weekend! Grab your coffee, water, tea, or wine and get reading–>

-Wanderlust alert: {this is glamorous} profiles the magical, mystical Peru. Swoon.

-New vendor crush: the sisters behind Karson Butler Events! Their new DC studio is divine– so much interior inspiration!

-New Shakespeare adaptation! Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing looks AMAZING. Thanks Annie for sharing!

-Must-bake: a pinata cake! I think we have everything we need to throw an incredible Cinco de Mayo party…

-Must-bake #2: buttermilk biscuits by Smitten Kitchen. Enough said.
